How do I cite Facebook pages and posts in APA Style?

Answer

The templates in bold font show the type of information that a reference should include, and the reference that follows it is an example using a real Facebook page.

Facebook Home Page

Social media home pages are one of the few citation types in APA style that require a retrieval statement. The retrieval date is provided because the content of the page can change over time.

Facebook Posts

If images, videos, and other graphics are included indicate it in square brackets before the status update notation.

Author or group name. (year, Month day). Content of post up to first 20 characters [Description of audiovisuals] [Status update]. Site name. URL
