How do I cite PowerPoint or Lecture Notes in APA Style?

Answer

PowerPoint

For more information, see APA 7th Edition section 10.14.

Format
Author name, Initials. (Year, Month Day). PowerPoint title [PowerPoint slides]. CMS@University abbreviation. URL.

If the PowerPoint is on Canvas, or password protected, the URL should be the login page, not the PowerPoint.

The CMS is the Course Management System, like Canvas, BlackBoard, Moodle, and others.

Example
Gump, R. (2024, May 3). Citing social media in APA 7 [PowerPoint slides]. Canvas@LSSC. https://lssc.instructure.com/
In-text citation

(Gump, 2024)

If the PowerPoint is on public site, replace the CMS@University with the name of the website.

Example
Aboueleish, G. (2014, April 15). Emotional intelligence [PowerPoint slides]. SlideShare. https://www.slideshare.net/gihanaboueleish/emotional-intelligence-33547110.
In-text citation

(Aboueleish, 2014)

The same format can be used for other kinds of slides or lecture notes. Just replace "PowerPoint slides" with an appropriate description.

Example
Lorang, J. (2021, February 22) Digital book displays. [Google Slides]. Google Drive. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1AVZ6LMy06JSp9wrIXZqZEDEozSN-z-wY/edit#slide=id.p1.
In-text citation

(Lorang, 2001)

Lecture Notes

(First initial of the person who gave the lecture. Last name, personal communication, Month Day, Year lecture took place).

In Text Citation

Library systems lose hundreds of books each year to damage. (R. Gump, personal communication, July 18, 2023).
