In-text citations begin with the first element listed in the corresponding entry on the Works Cited page.

For an in-text citation in MLA, you can use a parenthetical citation or a narrative citation with a signal phrase:

Works Cited example:
"Luigi, the Spider Who Wanted to Be a Kitten." BookPage, Mar. 2024, p. 30. Gale Academic OneFile, link.gale.com/apps/doc/A782322145/AONE?u=lincclin_lscc&sid=bookmark-AONE&xid=42ea70d3. Accessed 18 Apr. 2024.
 
 
Parenthetical in-text citation that goes at the end of the sentence:

 

Format:

("First 2-4 Words of Title" Page Number).

Example:

This book is about a spider who "truly wants to be a kitten" ("Luigi, the Spider" 30).

 

Or

 

Signal Phrase at the beginning of the sentence:

 

Format:

According to “First 2-4 Words of Title,”...(page number).

Example:

According to "Luigi, the Spider," this book is about a spider who "truly wants to be a kitten" (30).
