In-text citations begin with the first element listed in the corresponding entry on the Works Cited page.
In-Text Citations in APA
In-text citations in APA style use specific citation rules depending on the number of authors for the source and whether you are paraphrasing or quoting source material.
When you paraphrase your source material, you do not need to include a page number in the citation. If you are using a direct quote you do need to include a page number or paragraph number for the location of the quote in the source.
In-Text Citation for Sources with Two Authors
Reference example:
Parenthetical in-text citation that goes at the end of the sentence:
Format: (Last Name & Last Name, n.d.).
Example:
This southern border checkpoint near San Diego has become one of the most bustling locations along the entire US-Mexico border (Somaskanda & Smith, n.d.).
or
Signal Phrase at the beginning of the sentence:
Format: According to Last Name and Last Name (n.d.),
Example:
According to Somaskanda & Smith (n.d.), this southern border checkpoint near San Diego has become one of the most bustling locations along the entire US-Mexico border.
