When searching in a database, how can I tell if a source is peer-reviewed?

Answer

Scholarly peer-reviewed articles are useful in research for in-depth information about specific research topics. There are two main ways to recognize a peer-reviewed article in a database.

Search for Peer-Reviewed Articles

You can search our databases for "peer reviewed" articles or books and only peer reviewed sources will come up.

Evaluate Articles

Additionally, you can review your articles for the following characteristics.

  • Multiple authors
  • Authors are experts in field
  • Complex titles
  • Article is broken into sections such as: literature review, methodology, results, discussion, etc.
  • Long articles (some can be more than 20 pages)
  • References list

Please contact one of our Librarians in person or through our Ask a Librarian if you have questions.
