How do I fix incorrect margins and spacing on an existing Works Cited or References page in Word?

Margins for your Works Cited or References page should be 1-inch all around. Sometimes, when a hanging indent is created the citations move to the left making the left hand margin smaller. See the two images below. 

The image on the left shows incorrect margins and spacing, while the one on the right shows a corrected references page.

Follow these steps to correct these errors:

  1. Use the paragraph settings launch button to open a dialog box
  2. Set indentation boxes to "0" and the "Special" box to "Hanging" by 0.5'
  3. Make sure that the spacing boxes are set to "0" and the "Line Spacing" box is set to "Double"
