How do I cite a video in MLA Style?

Answer

All citations work on a basic format in MLA. If an element is missing, like the author, you skip it. Use the template and sample citation below to create your own citation.

Template:

Performer or Speaker last name, first name (if available). "Title of Source (name of film or video)." Title of Container (streaming service), uploaded by Uploader's Name, Date, URL (without http://). Accessed day month year.

Sample citation:

"Franz Kafka-Metamorphosis Centenary Edition 1916-2016." Vimeo, uploaded by Chris Swanton, 4 Dec. 2016, vimeo.com/ondemand/franzkafka. Accessed 5 Feb. 2019.

Sample YouTube citation:

“Sesame Street – Lin-Manuel Miranda – It’s a Habitat.” YouTube, 30 Nov. 2016, youtu.be/0q6HOwgFRY0. Accessed 24 Apr. 2017.
Miranda, Lin-Manuel. "Lin-Manuel Miranda Performs 'Alexander Hamilton' at the White House." YouTube, uploaded by Jungle Vlog, 1 Oct. 2015, www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8_ARd4oKiI. Accessed 5 Feb. 2019.

Sample TED Talk citation from the TED website:

Rieppel, Lukas. "The Most Notorious Scientific Feud in History." TED, July 2021, www.ted.com/talks/lukas_rieppel_the_most_notorious_scientific_feud_in_history. Accessed 16 Aug. 2021.
